Par timer

Set a par time, tap the dial, and fire before the second beep. Free, in your browser, no sign-up. Built for dry fire at home and drills at the range.

How a par drill works

  1. Pick a par time

Choose a time you make most of the time. When it gets easy, take a second off.

  2. Tap the dial and stand by

The dial goes black. With a random start delay you can't anticipate the beep, just like a match.

  3. Go on the first beep

The orange sweep shows how much of the par is left.

  4. Beat the lower beep

The second beep is a lower tone so you can tell them apart. If your last shot breaks after it, the par wins. Run a set of reps or loop it until you stop.

Dry fire safely

  • Unload the gun and keep all ammunition in another room.
  • Check the chamber and magazine again before every session.
  • Point at a safe backstop that would stop a round.
  • When you're done, say so out loud before you reload, and don't go back to "one more rep".
  • On a live range, the range officer's commands come before any timer.

Want it to hear your shots?

The same par timer is in the Blast Buddy app, and the app listens. It times every shot, shows which ones made the par, and keeps your best and average time across every rep. The par timer and the shot timer are free, with no shot limit.

Questions

What is a par timer?

A par timer gives you two beeps. The first starts the drill. The second tells you the par time is up. Your goal is to finish the drill, for example a draw and one shot, before the second beep.

Is this par timer free?

Yes. It runs in your browser with no account. The par timer in the Blast Buddy app is free too.

Why can't I hear the beeps on my iPhone?

Turn the volume up. If you still hear nothing, turn off the silent switch (or Silent Mode): some iOS versions mute websites while it is on.

Does it detect my shots?

No, the browser version only gives you the beeps. The Blast Buddy app on iPhone and Android listens for every shot, shows which shots made the par, and keeps your best and average time.
